Seward Community Co-op – Friendship Store

Grocery Replenishment Buyer 

Purpose:  To provide excellent customer service, receive, order, and stock product, and maintain a neat, clean, fully stocked grocery department; to work with Grocery Manager to maintain high standards for store conditioning; to assist in meeting department objectives for sales, achieved margin, and inventory turns.  

Status:  Full Time. Reports to the Grocery Manager

Pay Level: III ($11.57-$18.00 hourly)

Responsibilities:

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  1. Provide excellent customer service.
  2. Answer calls for Grocery immediately, taking messages when necessary.
  3. Provide customers and staff with accurate product information including source, uses, nutrition, and preparation.
  4. Participate in department demo program.
  5. Report customer comments and suggestions to appropriate buyer or manager.
  6. Notify Grocery Manager of maintenance and equipment needs.
  7. Work effectively with customers from various cultural backgrounds.

 DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE

  1. Front and straighten product, including all displays.
  2. Ensure tags and signage are accurate and in good condition.
  3. Follow department cleaning schedules.
  4. Assist in training staff in operations and practices.
  5. Provide some day-to-day direction to sub-department staff.
  6. Participate in daily AM and shift change walk through, working with Shift Lead to identify store conditioning priorities.
  7. Ensure cross merchandising displays are maintained.

 RECEIVING AND STOCKING

  1. Check in and sign for deliveries following established procedures.
  2. Fully stock and rotate all displays and shelves following established procedures.
  3. Build displays as needed following established merchandising procedures.
  4. Keep all storage and back stock areas clean, organized, and safe.
  5. Coordinate returns and credit requests with Receiver.
  6. Track all losses and minimize shrink.

 ORDERING & MERCHANDISING

  1. Place daily orders efficiently and on time, using established procedures.
  2. Maintain appropriate inventory levels to maximize turns and minimize out-of-stocks.
  3. Ensure that customer special orders are ordered as needed and are accurately priced.
  4. Maintain complete and accurate order records.
  5. Notify Grocery Buyer of necessary order sheet updates.
  6. Work with Grocery Manager or Assistants to adjust inventory appropriately for promotions and demos and assist with bi-weekly promotional programs.
  7. Provide feedback to Department Managers on product selection, customer satisfaction, operational changes, ideas for department and sales improvement, product additions and drops.
  8. Notify grocery team, including manager, of product and supplier issues.
  9. Ensure that all grocery areas are neat, clean, abundant and attractive.
  10. Familiarity with reading financial supports, including movement reports.
  11. Participate in meeting sales and margin goals for the department.
  12. Work effectively with Merchandising Department to ensure the best customer experience.

 OTHER

  1. Work effectively with co-workers from various cultural backgrounds.
  2. Participate in quarterly inventory counts.
  3. Attend department, storewide, and other team meetings.
  4. Perform other tasks as assigned by Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Retail experience.
  • Organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and adapt to change.
  • Reliable attendance.
  • English proficiency.
  • Computer proficiency.

FUNCTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift.
  • Ability to bend and lift loads up to 60 pounds.  Push and pull carts weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Handle environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, freezer, etc.)
  • Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 60 pounds

  • Retail ordering experience.
  • Experience and product knowledge in natural foods.
  • Ability to grow positive relationships with vendors and co-workers.
  • Inclination for ongoing learning and self-improvement.
  • Multiple language competencies.
