Job Description

Bakery Shift Lead

 

Purpose: To coordinate daily shift duties and ensure the bakery is neat, clean and well stocked.   To act as the go-to person for department or store needs in the absence of the Baking Supervisor. 

                       

Status: Full-time. Reports to Bakery Supervisor

 

Pay Level: IV

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Work with Baking Supervisor to manage daily workflow responsibilities; create and assist with production lists
  • Responsible for keeping the department looking it's best by working/managing the sales floor displays, facing, restocking products, cleaning, organizing and resetting the department as needed
  • Assign duties to staff and assist as needed
  • Receive and report sick calls, cover shifts vacated due to illness/absence
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Maintain up to date product knowledge in order to answer staff and customer questions
  • Make signs when necessary
  • Place and put away orders as needed
  • Work with Baking Supervisor to develop new products, menus and operational systems
  • Participate in departmental and storewide meetings and trainings
  • Participate in departmental inventories and projects
  • Adhere to and monitor proper food handling procedures at all times in compliance with the Health Department
  • Wash hands routinely, frequently and properly to ensure the safety of all products per Seward Co-op's Hand-Washing Policy
  • Respond to "Service Team" calls
  • Assist in the achievement of department goals
  • Complete tasks and special projects as assigned by the Bakery Supervisor and Deli Manager.
  • Serve as floor warden in case of emergency.

Qualifications:

 

Essential

  • Self-motivated, organized, responsible, flexible
  • Quick, efficient baking skills
  • Must work scheduled shifts
  • Production bakery experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Able to work well in a team to achieve departmental goals
  • Able to prioritize department's daily workflow
  • Knowledge of baking, natural foods and dietary allergies
  • English proficiency

 

Functional

  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
  • Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers and co-workers from various cultural backgrounds
