Job Description

Deli Counter Staff


Purpose: To provide excellent customer service. To keep all counter areas neat and clean, and to assist in the achievement of departmental goals.


Status: Part or Full-time. Reports to Deli Counter Supervisor


Pay Level: I or II




Customer Service

  • Provide attentive and courteous customer service
  • Maintain case displays
  • Assist in hot entre service
  • Keep all counter aspects neat and clean
  • Sample deli items
  • Make juices, smoothies, and sandwiches quickly and efficiently



  • Put away orders as necessary
  • Label paper and plastic items as needed
  • Organize as needed
  • Pack and face Grab & Go items and bakery items
  • Prep Juice Bar items.


Salad/Sandwich Bar

  • Follow safe food handling guidelines
  • Work with Deli Counter Supervisor to assist in the daily workflow
  • Maintain back stock of all items


Other duties as assigned

  • Participate in departmental and storewide meetings and trainings
  • Participate in departmental inventories and projects
  • Other tasks as assigned by Perishables Department Manager and Deli Counter Supervisor
  • Wash hands routinely, frequently and properly to ensure the safety of our products per Seward Co-ops Hand Washing Policy





  • Self motivated, organized, responsible, flexible
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Regular, predictable attendance
  • Able to work well in a team to achieve departmental goals
  • Interested natural foods
  • English proficiency



  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
  • Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.



  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers and co-workers from various cultural backgrounds
  • Multilingual a plus
