Job Description

Deli Counter Shift Lead


Purpose: To ensure efficient evening work flow at the deli counter; to cover shifts in the event of absence/illness; to assist with creation of production and prep lists; to assist in the achievement of department goals.


Status: Full time. Reports to Deli Counter Supervisor


Pay Level: III



  • Create and assist with production / prep lists.
  • Face all cases, including grab-n-go, bakery and cheese
  • Place and put away orders as needed.
  • Sign making
  • Assign duties to staff as needed (i.e. cleaning duties, prep work, etc).
  • Organize and ensure department cleaning procedures.
  • Work with Deli Manager to promote Deli.
  • Ensure safe food handling in compliance with Health Department regulations.
  • Respond to "Service Team" calls.
  • Participate in departmental and storewide meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in departmental inventories and projects.
  • Cover shifts vacated due to illness/absence.
  • Assist in achievement of department goals.
  • Communicate and document necessary information regarding Deli operations.
  • Communicate often and effectively with kitchen.
  • Complete tasks and special projects assigned by Deli Counter Supervisor and Deli Manager.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Wash hands routinely, frequently and properly to ensure the safety of our products per Seward Co-ops Hand Washing Policy.
  • Act as floor warden when necessary.

  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
  • Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.



  • Multilingual a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers and co-workers from various cultural backgrounds
